QOTD: Do you prefer long books or shorter books? 🧐

I can’t say that it matters to me. As long as the story grips me, I’m in for the ride! Eliesmore & the Green Stone is the 2nd longest book I’ve ever written, coming in at 118,000 words. But it only tells half the tale of Eliesmore, which is probably the most epic, most emotional story I’ve written. It certainly wore me out, so I took a break for a few years to write shorter novels. But. . .the 100,000+ stories are returning. More details soon! 😉

QOTD: What is your favorite fairy tale?

Before I started writing Tales of the Enchanted Forest, I listened to the Myths and Legends podcast with the original versions of fairy tales. And let me tell you, they were dark and the endings were often nasty. Still, they were inspirational for my short stories.

Usually, I begin each story with a fairy tale in mind and follow the threads whenever my imagination takes me. The original inspiration for Heart of the Raven was Little Red Riding Hood, but of course, if you’ve read the tale, the only similarities between Heart of the Raven and Red Riding Hood are the forest and the monster. He may not be a wolf but perhaps he’s just as dangerous. . .

This is my current read and I must admit, although I don’t read much YA Fantasy, I’m really enjoying this one! The setting is great and reminds me of Vikings, the names are really cool and Aella’s magic is fascinating. I’m about 1/3 done but can’t wait to find out what happens next!

When I was writing Realm of Rulers, I spent a lot of time watching sea-themed TV shows and movies. Life under the waters is varied, fascinating and breath taking.
